Heavy rains lead to traffic congestion, water logged roads in Hyderabad

HYDERABAD: The city experienced heavy rains accompanied by thunderstorms, causing traffic bottlenecks and inconvenience for office goers on Wednesday evening.

Several areas, including Malkajgiri, Bandlaguda, Secunderabad, Manikonda, Banjara Hills, Khairatabad, Madhapur, HITEC city, Golconda, and Mehdipatnam, saw significant rains, resulting in flooded roads.

The Golconda area received the most rain (94 mm), followed by Sivarampalle (72.8 mm), Jubilee Hills (61.8 mm) and Asif nagar(55.0mm).

Slow vehicle movement was witnessed from Paradise X Roads, Anand Theatre, Begumpet Police Lines, Rasoolpura, PNT, HPS, and Shyamlal Building towards Life Styles owing to heavy traffic, rains, and peak hours. Begumpet Traffic Police were present and managing traffic to ensure that commuters were not inconvenienced.

Traffic congestion from Durga Enclave, Banjara Hills Kaman, Road No 12, familia Hospital towards Virinchi Hospital caused slow movement due to heavy traffic, rains, waterlogging, and peak hours. Banjara Hills Traffic police and DRF teams were available and regulating traffic.

The India Meterological Department (IMD) had issued a yellow warning for Hyderabad until September 30 for heavy downpours, thunderstorms, and lightning.

Light to moderate rain or thunderstorms likely to occur to many parts of Telangana, along with thunderstorms and lightning also occurring in isolated areas till September 30, 2023, according to IMD.
