Man attempts suicide fearing 'Agnipath' case

He was admitted to a private hospital in Warangal. Doctors said that his condition was now stable.

A young man, Govind Ajay, attempted suicide on Wednesday. He feared that the police would register a case against him for being a part of the infamous 'Anti-Agnipath' protest in Secunderabad.

He was admitted to a private hospital in Warangal. Doctors said that his condition was now stable.

Ajay, from Kothapalli village in Station Ghanpur mandal, had participated in the protest and also spoke to a TV channel. On learning that the police were on a lookout for him, he attempted suicide by consuming insecticides.

He was rushed to the hospital buy his parents. He informed that he participated in the protests because of a 'WhatsApp' message and said that the police started firing within 10 minutes of his arrival.

Ajay had passed the Army's physical test and said he was looking forward to the written test. He said he panicked that a case would be filed against him, which would affect his candidature and also career.

The Centre had decided not to take back the 'Agnipath' scheme and stated that aspirants would have to pledge that they were not a part of the arsons. If found guilty, they would not be eligible to appear for any government examinations.
