Abdul Nazeer sworn in Andhra Pradesh Governor

VIJAYAWADA: Justice (Retired) S Abdul Nazeer was on Friday sworn in the Governor of Andhra Pradesh at a ceremony held at the Raj Bhavan here. Andhra Pradesh High Court Chief Justice Prashant Kumar Mishra administered the oath of office to the Governor-designate.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy, opposition leader Nara Chandrababu Naidu, Ministers, High Court judges, people’s representatives and government officials were present at the Governor’s swearing-in ceremony. YS Jagan led the dignitaries in congratulating Justice (retd) Abdul Nazeer on assuming charge of the Gubernatorial position.

Abdul Nazeer was born on January 5, 1958 in Beluvai of Moodabidri Taluk in Karnataka. After spending his childhood in his native village, he studied B.Com in Mahaveera College before graduating in Law from SDM Law College in Kodialbail of Mangalore. After registering himself as a practisinig lawyer on February 18, 1983, he began his career as an advocate of the Karnataka High Court.

After a prolonged stint as an advocate, he was appointed as an additional judge of the Karnataka High Court on May 12, 2003. He was later promoted as a permanent judge on September 24, 2004. On February 17, 2017, Abdul Nazeer was elevated to the Supreme Court with his appointment as a judge of the apex court. He rendered his services as a Supreme Court judge till his retirement on January 4, 2023.
