VIJAYAWADA: The Anti-Corruption Bureau court reserved its judgement on the petition filed by laywers of former Chief Minister and TDP president Chandrababu Naidu for a day. The court will pronounce its judgement on Tuesday.

Supreme Court lawyer Sidharth Luthra sought house remand for Naidu urging the court to consider the threat perception, as a survivor of an attempt on his life at Alipiri in 2003.

As a person under NSG security, house remand would be highly appropriate for Chandrababu Naidu, Luthra told the court. He said that the life of Naidu was under threat and that house arrest would save him from any attempt on his life.

Additional AG Ponnavolu Sudhakar Reddy in the counter against the petition filed by the counsel of Chandrababu Naidu argued that Naidu’s health was hail and hearty and VIP treatment was accorded to him in the Central Prison. The Government lawyer said that if allowed to stay out of jail, Chandrababu Naidu, being a former Chief Minister, would influence the witnesses and tamper with the evidence.

He pointed out that there was no provision for house remand in Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) cases and added that the former Chief Minister would be more secure at the prison than at home. The question of house remand didn't arise once an accused was remanded to judicial custody, special GP Vivekananda said.

Follow procedures, Naidu’s lawyers told

The team of lawyers defending Chandrababu Naidu sought permission to inspect all the APSSDC case documents available with the CID by filing another petition. However, the judge reportedly told the team to file petitions before noon and wait for a hearing after a serial number was allocated for the petition. At this stage, the hearing on the house remand petition began all over again, when the ACB judge sought additional information on the house remand petition, particularly on cases where house remand was granted by the Supreme Court.

The CID on the other hand sought five-day custody of Naidu to complete the interrogation, which they said was incomplete with a truant Chandrababu Naidu refusing to cooperate at the SIT office in Tadepalli on Saturday night.
