Anantapur sizzles at 44.4 degrees, all-time heat record for April

According to the Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA), dry weather will persist over the state until April 8, 2024

AMARAVATI: Anantapur reached a record high of 44.4 degrees Celsius, marking the highest temperature ever recorded in the April month on Saturday. Last year, on April 28, 2023, it was 43.5 degrees. Additionally, Nandyal in Kurnool district recorded a scorching 44.5 degrees Celsius.

Even on April 7, 2024, Anantapur maintained its lead with the highest temperature recorded at 44.4 degrees Celsius, followed closely by Kurnool district at 44.3 degrees, Cuddapah at 43.2 degrees, and Tirupati at 42.4 degrees in the Rayalaseema region. In Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Nandigama recorded 43.6 degrees, Amaravati 41.8 degrees, Kavali 41.6 degrees, Tuni and Gannavaram 40.7 degrees, and Visakhapatnam 38 degrees.

According to the Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA), dry weather will persist over the state until April 8, 2024. Heat waves are likely at isolated places in Rayalaseema, while thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are expected at isolated locations in NCAP&Yanam. Hot and humid conditions are anticipated at isolated places in NCAP & Yanam, SCAP, and Rayalaseema on April 8, 2024.

However, the state is expected to experience some relief from the heat starting April 9, 2024, with very light to light rain expected at isolated places in Srikakulam, Parvathipuram Manyam, Palnadu, Prakasam, Nellore, and Tirupathi districts.

On April 10, 2024, very light to light rain is forecasted at isolated places in Vizianagaram, Parvathipuram Manyam, Nellore, Kurnool, Anathapuram, Sri Sathya Sai, Chittoor, and Tirupathi districts, as well as isolated places in Kurnool district.

On April 11, 2024, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are expected at isolated places over Rayalaseema, with hot and uncomfortable weather anticipated at isolated places over North Coastal Andhra Pradesh (NCAP) & Yanam, South Coastal Andhra Pradesh (NCAP), and Rayalaseema.

APSDMA issues Heatwave precautions

  • Symptoms of Heatstroke: Headache, dizziness, high fever, and feeling faint or disoriented. Sleepiness, seizures, or loss of consciousness.
  • Stay informed about local weather conditions. Watch TV, listen to radio news, read newspapers.
  • Wear a hat or use an umbrella, and wear light-colored, loose-fitting clothing. Similarly, use sunglasses to protect your eyes.
  • Make an effort to stay indoors as much as possible. Drink plenty of water, even if you don't feel thirsty.
  • Consume salt, glucose, or ORS mixed in water.
  • Those at risk of heatstroke should be taken to the nearest primary health center immediately.
  • Consume watermelon, buttermilk, coconut water everyday.
  • Seek medical attention immediately if symptoms of heatstroke or other health problems occur when out in the extreme heat.
  • Keep the indoor environment cool
