AMARAVATI: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy on Tuesday said that his administration would be functioning from Visakhapatnam from July this year. He made these key comments with his ministers during a cabinet meeting held in the wake of the Assembly budget session which began on Tuesday.

Addressing his cabinet colleagues, YS Jagan said that they would be shifting to the port city of Visakhapatnam in July to start functioning from there. Adopting the carrot and stick policy to the hilt, the Chief Minister also issued a stern warning to the ministers while asking them to perform to their potential.

“I have been monitoring the performance of everyone. Any lapses in ensuring desired results will not be spared,” he told the ministers in unequivocal tone. YS Jagan also asked them to leave no stone unturned to ensure the victory of YSRCP candidates in the MLC elections under the MLAs’ quota. The YSRCP chief has already entrusted the responsibility of party candidates’ victory to the ministers.

According to some reports, the Chief Minister dropped a bombshell by announcing that three ministers would be replaced soon after the MLC elections.

In the last several months, YS Jagan has been keeping his ministers, MPs, MLAs and MLCs on their toes by issuing periodic alerts about their individual performances.

Armed with survey reports, he has been cautioning those who were found to be lagging behind in maintaining their contact with the masses in their respective constituencies. The first major warning from the YSRCP chief came before the launch of the ‘Gadapa Gadapaku mana prabhutvam (Our governance to every doorstep) initiative.

Even on the capital issue, YS Jagan has made his intentions amply clear several months back. While the litigation over the Amaravati capital issue is sub-judice, the Chief Minister has already announced his decision to make Visakhapatnam the administrative capital of the State. During the recent AP Global Investors Summit held in Visakhapatnam, YS Jagan referred to the port city as the state’s capital.

The cabinet, at its Tuesday meeting, approved 15 bills that are to be tabled in the Assembly during the budget session. The cabinet also gave its consent to the new industrial policy 2023-27. A total of 45 aspects stated in the agenda were taken up for discussion at the cabinet meeting.

Interestingly, there was no mention of the administrative shift to Visakhapatnam in the maiden speech of Andhra Pradesh Governor Abdul Nazir to both the Houses of legislature on Tuesday morning.
