VIJAYAWADA: Parades, flag hoisting, demonstrations and cultural programmes mark the 77th Independence Day Republic celebrations in Andhra Pradesh on Tuesday.

Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly Speaker Tammineni Sitharam hoisted the National Flag at the Legislative Assembly in Velagapudi. Sitaram said that Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy was committed to the welfare of the poor and implementing several welfare schemes for their upliftment.

Sitaram hailed the vision of YS Jagan for providing the benefits of freedom directly to the doorstep of the poor by setting up the village secretariat system with the aim of eradicating poverty. Apart from that, the YSRCP Government had also focused on eradicating illiteracy and unemployment in the State, besides providing quality living standards for the poor, he said.

Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council Chairman K Moshen Raju participated in the Independence Day celebrations held at the Legislative Council and hoisted the tricolour. Moshen Raju expressed his concern over the attacks against women in the country even after 76 years of Independence. He called upon the people to be very vigilant and teach a good lesson to the fanatics, terrorists and regionalists who were trying to take away the freedom and independence achieved by our ancestors.

In Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh Finance Minister Buganna Rajendranath Reddy recalled the efforts of freedom fighters in achieving Independence for the country. He hoisted the tricolour on the Police Parade Grounds and said that YS Jagan was implementing the welfare schemes in a transparent manner without giving any scope for irregularities.

In Hyderabad, Telugu Desam Party (TDP) President N Chandrababu Naidu paid homage to the portrait of Mahatma Gandhi marking the 77th Independence Day celebrations at his residence. He called upon the people to extend their support for building the nation and make India a power house by 2047 through eradicating poverty and discrimination in society. The TDP general secretary also recalled the moment when the nation attained Independence, which was an outcome of the efforts of countless freedom fighters.

At the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Andhra Pradesh unit office in Vijayawada, BJP State President Daggubati Purandeswari hailed the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi striving hard for the upliftment of people from all walks of society. She hoisted the National Flag and said that the BJP-led Central Government accorded importance to providing welfare to all the communities in the country without any discrimination.

Jana Sena Party (JSP) President Pawan Kalyan participated in the Independence Day celebrations held at the party central office in Mangalagiri. Pawan Kalyan hoisted the tricolour and participated in a meeting with the party women's cadre. Similarly, Hindupur MLA and Basavatarakam Indo American Cancer Hospital and Research Institute Chairman Nandamuri Balakrishna called upon the youth to fight against corruption and drugs to protect the heritage of the country during the Independence Day celebrations held at the hospital premises in Hyderabad.
