VIJAYAWADA: Andhra Pradesh Governor S Abdul Nazeer and Chief Minister YS Jaga Mohan Reddy on Wednesday gave away YSR Lifetime Achievement and YSR Achievement Awards-2023 to as many as 27 individuals and various organisations for significant contributions in their respective fields.

The awards were presented for the third consecutive year on the occasion of AP State Formation Day. The awards, instituted in memory of former Chief Minister Dr YS Rajsekhar Reddy were presented to the individuals and organisations at A-Convention Centre here, which was also attended by Dr YSR 's wife YS Vijayamma.

Congratulating the recipients, the Chief Minister said, “It has been 67 years since the formation of Andhra Pradesh. We are following a tradition of honouring the stalwarts who have enriched our state for decades in various fields with YSR awards for three years. These awards are given to ordinary people who have reached greater heights in various fields and become extraordinary people, influencing our society so much.”

YS Jagan said that this year as many as 27 individuals and organisations were honoured with the YSR Awards. Among them, four eminent persons were conferred YSR Achievement Awards and 23 individuals and organisations were conferred YSR Lifetime Achievement Awards. The Dr YSR Lifetime Achievement Award carries a cash prize of Rs 10 lakh, a bronze figurine of YSR, a memento and a citation. While the Dr YSR Achievement Award carries a cash prize of Rs 5 lakh, a memento and a commendation letter, he said.

“The State Government has presented these awards in the name of Dr YSR for his dedication to the poor, farmers, culture and traditions of Telugu speaking people. During the reign of YSR, priorities were given to agriculture, education, medicine, and house construction for the poor. The presentation of the awards is only a gesture to convey the message that the government will continue to support the organisations and individuals who have been working for the betterment of society,” YS Jagan said.

Governor S Abdul Nazeer said that the awards, instituted in memory of former CM YSR, who earned a permanent place in the hearts of Telugu people in both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, would go a long way in inspiring people to serve society. Hailing the YSR Congress Government for ensuring inclusive and transparent governance, the Governor commended the efforts of the Government for establishing Rythu Bharosa Centres for the first time in the country and providing schemes to the eligible beneficiaries under Navaratnalu.
