NELLORE: The Kavali Rural police has arrested as many as seven suspects on Sunday and are hunting for the remaining accused who attacked an APSRTC bus driver in Kavali few days ago.

Briefing the details to the media, Nellore SP Tirumaleswar Reddy said that the police launched search operations for the accused immediately after receiving a complaint from victim Bondili Ratan Singh from Krishna district, and arrested the accused within 24 hours He said that cases were registered against the accused under sections Cr.No:217/2023 U/s 143, 341, 332, 307, 323, 427 r/w 34 IPC.

According to the SP, the accused were identified as Sudhakar from Venkannapalem village in Guduru mandal, Putta Sivakumar Reddy from Indiranagar, Sheikh Khajawali from Kavali town, Kuppala Vamsi Indira Nagar, Kavali Town, Faiyaz from Mypad Road in Nellore Town, Jilani from Narayanareddy Peta Village, Indukurupeti Mandal, Sheikh Baji from Kavali town. The SP said that there were several cases registered on the accused and asserted that they belonged to a fake currency gang that stole money from travellers on the road.

On October 26, the victim Bondili Ram Singh and T. Srinivasa Rao were on duty as a driver of super luxury bus number AP 16 Z 0702 belonging to Vijayawada Auto Nagar Depot, was travelling from Bengaluru to Vijayawada at around 5:00 pm when the driver Ram Singh honked after seeing a car stopiing in front of the bus, which led to an altercation between the bus and car drivers.

However, while Ram Singh was heading towards the AMC market yard on the Maddurupadu service road next to the National Highway-16, at 6 pm, the above accused came in two cars and thrashed the driver on the road. The accused also broke the mobile phone of passengers who were recording the incident beside beating another driver in the bus.

Kavali Rural Police registered a case as per the complaint and on the orders of Nellore District SP, special teams were formed under the auspices of Kavali Rural CI Sri M Rajesh and the supervision of Additional SP (Admin) D. Himavati, Kavali DSP Sri M Venkataramana. The special team carried out search operations and nabbed the accused while they were fleeing from Kavali Town to the highway via Tummalapenta Road in a car without a number plate.

The SP extended appreciation and announced rewards to Kavali Rural CI M Rajesh, Kavali Rural SI S Suman, and other staff who worked hard in nabbing the accused.
