CHITTOOR: A 57-year-old woman was killed in a lone wild elephant attack in Bodinettam village in Chittoor district on Thursday. The deceased was identified as Vasantha.

This was the second such incident reported in Chittoor district after a 50-year-old man along with his wife were trampled to death by an elephant in 190 Ramapuram village in Gudipala mandal and injured a youth in the district on Wednesday.

Following the series of attacks by the elephant, people residing in the border-sharing villages of Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu were gripped in panic. The villagers had demanded the forest department officials for immediate capture of the conflict elephant and intensify their ‘Operation Elephant’ programme to divert the elephant into forest near Srirangam Palle Cheruvu.

Accordingly, the marauding elephant was tranqualised on a sugarcane field by the forest department along with staff of Sri Venkateswara (SV) Zoo, Tirupati near Ramapuram on Thursday.
