Former AP Deputy CM Alla Nani booked in cheating case over campaign incident
Alla Nani faces police case for alleged negligence following an election campaign lift accident in Eluru.
AMARAVATI: Former Deputy Chief Minister Alla Nani has been booked by Eluru Three Town Police Station in a cheating case, along with several others. The case pertains to an incident during a past election campaign involving an elevator failure that led to injuries.
The incident occurred during the general elections at Lakshmi Krishna Residency Apartments in Shantinagar, where YSRCP leader Dirishala Varaprasad and others were campaigning. As the campaigners concluded their activities on the fourth floor, they all entered an elevator, which suddenly failed and dropped down unexpectedly. This caused the occupants, including Nagamani, a female campaigner, to fall over each other, resulting in serious injuries for Nagamani. She was subsequently rushed to a local private hospital for treatment.
The campaign had involved volunteers and Secretariat staff, which, if made public, could have led to complications with the Election Commission of India. Due to this concern, the incident was kept secret. At the time, then Minister Alla Nani promised to cover Nagamani's medical expenses, arrange for accident insurance, and provide financial support to her family. Trusting these assurances, Nagamani remained silent on the issue.
However, as time passed, neither the promised compensation nor any support was provided by Alla Nani or any of the involved volunteers. When Nagamani persisted in asking for help, she was allegedly threatened by YSRCP leaders. As a result, she decided to approach the court for justice.
Following court orders, the Eluru III-Town Police registered a case on Saturday night against Alla Nani, Dirishala Varaprasad, Sudheer Babu, Jeelu Khan, Kurella Ramprasad, as well as private doctors Sunil Sandeep, and the president and secretary of Lakshmi Krishna Residency Apartments. The charges include negligence and failure to provide promised compensation to the injured victim.
