HYDERABAD: Former MP Chegondi Harirama Jogaiah on Monday filed a Public interest Litigation (PIL) in the Telangana High Court seeking directions to expedite the hearing in the illegal assets cases involving Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy before the next Assembly elections. However, the High Court expressed its displeasure, stating that the attempt was meant for publicity and admonished him for wasting the valuable time of the court.

In his PIL, the veteran leader urged the High Court to give its orders for speedier hearing of the cases against YS Jagan in the CBI Court.

A High Court bench comprising Chief Justice Ujjal Bhuyan and Justice N Tukaram heard the arguments presented by the counsel of Harirama Jogaiah. “It is a public nuisance. What is the public interest in this? It is clear that the PIL was filed by a private party. Being a former MP, it is not acceptable for him to file a PIL with the High Court,” the CJ said.

The High Court also found fault with Harirama Jogaiah’s advocate for directly approaching the court without reqeusting the CBI director to speed up the investigation. The petitioner’s advocate however told the court that arguments would be presented on the admissibility of the petition if they were given two weeks time. Later, the High Court adjourned the hearing to July 6, 2023.
