ISRO chairman Somnath prays for GSLV Mk3 launch at Chengalamma temple

TIRUPATI: Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) Chairman S Somnath prayed at Sri Chengalamma Parameswari temple in Sullurpeta town of Tirupati district that the launch of India's largest heavy rocket launcher GSLV Mark- III (GSLV Mk3) be successful. The launch was scheduled for 12:07 am on Sunday.

The temple Executive Officer (EO) Alla Srinivas Reddy welcomed Somnath and offered prayers to the GSLV Mk3 model in the garbhagudi, near the idol's feet.

In its first mission, the GSLV Mk 3 would launch the British startup OneWeb's 36 broadband satellites from Sriharikota spaceport. GSLV Mk3 was 43 metres tall and is the shortest launch vehicle. It weighed 641 tonnes.
