VISAKHAPATNAM: The accused in the Kodi Kathi case, Janupalli Srinivasa Rao (Srinu), was produced in the Visakhapatnam III Additional District Court on Tuesday after the Vijayawada NIA Court transferred the case to Visakhapatnam.

The court adjourned to September 6, 2023, the hearing in the case of attack targeting YS Jaganmohan Reddy with a rooster knife when he was in opposition four years ago.

Srinu was transferred from Rajamahendravaram Jail to Visakhapatnam, where his family members also reached the court. An emotional Srinu's mother appealed to Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy to appear in court and give his statement for quick disposal of the case.

Srinu's lawyer pleaded with the court to either grant bail to the accused or order Jagan to appear in court for a hearing in the case. The lawyer argued that there was no conspiracy in the case as mentioned by the NIA and that Srinu should be granted bail.

He also requested that Jagan either provide a No Objection Certificate (NOC) to the court or attend the hearing in person.

Srinu's lawyer also raised concerns about the political motives behind the postponement of the case and alleged that the issue was being dragged to be used as a topic in the upcoming elections.

On the other hand, lawyer Venkateswarlu who represented Jagan in the court argued that the case was still under investigation and that it was not appropriate for the Chief Minister to appear in court at this stage.
