Low pressure in Bay of Bengal: IMD predicts heavy rains in AP, Telangana for 3 days

AMARAVATI: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy rains for three days in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana starting from Wednesday, under the influence of a low pressure area that formed in the southwest and adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal on Tuesday.

According to the IMD, heavy to very heavy rains are expected in the north coastal Andhra while heavy rains are expected in the south coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema regions until July 6, 2023. Thunderstorms, accompanied by lightning, are very likely to occur at isolated places in a few districts in Andhra Pradesh. There is a possibility of heavy rains in East and West Godavari, Parvathipuram Manyam, Vijayanagaram, Anakapalli, Alluri Sitaramaraju, Kakinada, Eluru, NTR, Palnadu, Bapatla, Prakasam, Anantapur, Sri Sathya Sai, Kurnool and Nandyal districts on Wednesday.

Taking to Twitter, Sai Kiran, popularly known as Vizag Weatherman, predicted that Viskahapatnam might not see much rain with a low pressure area forming in the Bay of Bengal due to orographic effects. “So, mostly Visakhapatnam will have rain for one or two days this week. However, Anakapalli, Araku, Vizianagaram, Srikakulam, Kakinada, Godavari, Guntur, Krishna and Vijayawada will experience thunderstorms,” he said.

The Hyderabad centre of the IMD has also issued a yellow alert for Telangana and warned that heavy rains were very likely to occur at isolated places in the districts of Khammam, Nalgonda, Suryapet, Mahbubabad, Warangal, Hanamkonda, Yadadri Bhuvanagiri, Rangareddy, Hyderabad, Medchal Malkajgiri, Vikaarabaad, Medak, Kamareddy, Nagar Kurnool and Wanaparthy on Wednesday. Similarly, heavy rains are very likely to occur at isolated places in the districts of Komaram Bheem Asifabad, Rajanna Siricilla, Siddipet, Rangareddy, Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Medak, Kamareddy, Hyderabad, Medchal Malkajgiri and Mahabubnagar on Thursday.

Taking to Twitter, T Balaji, also known as Telangana Weatherman, predicted good rains in Telangana for the next few days due to cumulus and altocumulus clouds spotted over the State.
