TIRUMALA: It seems there is no respite for the devotees thronging Tirumala hills as the trap cameras fixed by the forest department officials have captured the movement of a leopard near Lord Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy temple on Alipiri pedestrian walkway enroute Tirumala on Friday.

The forest department officials said that the leopard's movement was captured in the trap cameras where a six-year-old girl Lakshitha was mauled to death by a leopard on August 12. A few days ago, the forest department had trapped a leopard near the 7th mile of the forest area in Tirumala. With that, the officials heaved a sigh of relief and concluded the ‘Operation Leopard’ in Tirumala.

However, their happiness was short-lived as the trap cameras had captured the movement of one more leopard on the Alipiri pedestrian walkway, apart from four leopards captured by the officials earlier. Reacting to the leopard movement on Alipiri pedestrian walkway, Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) executive officer AV Dharma Reddy said that efforts were being made to supply wooden sticks to the devotees on Alipiri pedestrian walkway enroute Tirumala from September 5, 2023.

The EO said that vigilance personnel along with police would supply the wooden sticks to the devotees from Alipiri and they would be taken back from the devotees near Lord Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy temple. Once again, the forest department officials had resumed ‘Operation Leopard’ in Tirumala on Friday, he said, and cautioned the devotees while trekking the Tirumala hills.
