Power dues from Telangana to AP: Union Govt says it’s sub judice

NEW DELHI: Union Minister for Power and Renewable Energy RK Singh has said that a case related to the electricity dues to be paid by Telangana to Andhra Pradesh is currently in the Supreme Court and further steps will be taken based on the court's verdict.

In a response to a question asked by YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) Rajya Sabha member V Vijayasai Reddy on Tuesday, RK Singh said that Andhra Pradesh had filed a special leave petition in the Supreme Court challenging the verdict in favour of Telangana in the High Court on the payment of electricity dues.

The Union Minister said that after the bifurcation of the State, from 2 June, 2014 to 10 June, 2017, Andhra Pradesh Power Generation Corporation Limited (APGENCO) supplied power to Telangana discoms. In this regard, the Union Government had released orders to the Ministry of Power on August 29, 2022 under Section 92 of the Andhra Pradesh State Bifurcation Act, 2014 stating that the arrears of Rs 6,756.92 crore due by Telangana should be paid within 30 days.

RK Singh said that the Union Ministry of Power had ordered Telangana to pay Rs 3,441.78 crore as principal and Rs 3,315.14 crore as late payment surcharges to Andhra Pradesh. Challenging these orders, the Telangana Government had filed a writ petition in the Telangana High Court. To this extent, the High Court pronounced its verdict on October 19, 2023 strike down the orders issued by the Central Power Ministry on August 29, 2022 on the electricity dues to be paid by Telangana to Andhra Pradesh.

New curriculum for MBBS Students

Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Dr Bharti Praveen Pawar on Tuesday said that the National Medical Commission had issued guidelines for the new curriculum for MBBS students on August 1.

In response to a question asked by member YSRCP Rajya Sabha member V Vijayasai Reddy, she said that under the new teaching plan, the students would have to understand the rural conditions of the respective areas as part of the curriculum "Family Adoption Programme-Achievement of Objectives" in the first year of professional education.

The Union Minister also said that the guidelines for this new curriculum designed in the name of Competency Based Medical Education have been made available on the website of the National Medical Commission (NMC).
