Punganur violence: TDP in-charge Challa Babu surrenders before police

CHITTOOR: Punganur TDP in-charge Challa Ramachandra Reddy alias Challa Babu along with party leaders surrendered before the police in Punganur, Chittoor district on Monday.

Challa Babu was named as accused No 1 in the violence that broke out on the outskirts of Punganur during TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu’s visit to Chittoor district on August 4. Since then, Challa Babu had been absconding and filed a petition with the Andhra Pradesh High Court on August 22 and sought anticipatory bill in connection with the violence that erupted in Punganur.

Out of the seven cases registered by the Punganur police under various sections, the High Court had granted conditional bail for Challa Babu in four cases. While bail was not granted for the remaining three cases. With this, Challa Babu surrendered before the police in the presence of DSP Sudhakar Reddy. Anticipating law and order issues, the police deployed personnel in good numbers before the Punganur station. Challa Babu was shifted to judicial remand.

TDP politburo member Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy along with party leaders Sugunamma, Narasimha Yadav and others reached the Punganur police station and extended their solidarity to Challa Babu.
