GUNTUR: TDP Parliamentary party leader and Guntur MP Galla Jayadev has decided to quit politics and stay away from the ensuing elections. He said that he can not continue as a part-time politician owing to the pressing need to attend to his businesses. Galla Jayadev is also the managing director of Amara Raja Group.

Announcing his decision here on Sunday, the Guntur MP said that as a businessman politician, he was prone to political vendetta making him less effective than a politician without any business to protect.

“I might come back to politics but not as far as the company requires my services. There are 24 percent of MPs in the Parliament who have businesses. If we fight against the Government they might attack our businesses. Despite that sword hanging on my head, I continued the fight,” he said.

He opined that honest politicians were forced to stay silent fearing backlash from the Government agencies. “I can’t be a mute MP, hence I decided not to contest in the 2024 elections. My friends and family members too advised me not to contest,” he added.

Describing the Amara Raja group companies as robust and healthy, Galla Jayadev said that one could run the business as a part-timer but not politics. He added that he worked with full dedication as an MP.

“The people of your constituency want development. They would like you to raise issues on the floor of the house not fearing any consequences. I can’t do anything half-heartedly so I have decided to stay away from politics. But I might come back to politics one day,” he pointed out.

“ED called me twice and interrogated me in different cases. All my businesses are under surveillance. CBI and ED are tapping my phones. You know there are seventy different permissions to be renewed for businesses every year. All these permissions are becoming weapons against me,” he said.

He said that there were cases against his company and he was facing them legally and hoped to win. “There are lot of battles that I have to fight and win but I might lose the war, so I should take a break and return to politics only after I free myself from these responsibilities,” the Guntur MP said.
