RAJAMAHENDRAVARAM: Three including a 19-month-old baby, died, and seven others were severely injured after two cars collided after a car's tyre burst and plunged onto the opposite lane at Bandapuram in Devarapalli mandal of East Godavari district on Tuesday.

The deceased were identified as Divya Priya (25), Ramadevi (50), and Ganishka (19 months) of the same family.

According to the police, two cars, with one going from Nandigama to Vizag and the other going from Vizag to Hyderabad, were in opposite directions. On reaching Bandapuram in Devarapalli mandal, the car travelling at high speed from Nandigama to Vizag lost control and plunged onto another road crossing a divider after one of its tyres burst.

As a result, the car going from Vizag to Hyderabad collided with the vehicle. Upon receiving the information, the police shifted the injured to the nearest hospital. The police said a case would be registered, and an investigation would start.

The accident took place while the deceased were returning to Vizag from Hyderabad after the New Year celebration.
