TIRUPATI: Three people were killed on the spot in a ghastly road accident at Pullampet Mandal in Annamayya District when an APSRTC bus collided head on with a oil tanker on Saturday evening.

Eight persons sustained grievous injuries when the bus traveling to Tirupati from Kadapa collided head-on with an oil tanker at a curve near Pullampet Mandal. According to reports, the deceased were identified as G Srinivasulu alias Buddaiah (62), a native of Obulavaripalli mandal; Sekhar (45), from Venkata Rajampet and Basha (65) from Kadapa.

The injured were shifted to Rajampet Government Hospital for treatment. Among them, the condition of two women was said to be critical. On receiving information, a team of police personnel rushed to the spot. The dead bodies were shifted to the Government Hospital in Kadapa for a post-mortem examination. The locals and police suspected that over speeding of the oil tanker could have been the reason for the mishap.

A case was registered by the police and further investigations were underway. Meanwhile, vehicular traffic came to a standstill on the Kadapa-Tirupati stretch for a while, following the mishap. Police swung into action and cleared the vehicular traffic on the stretch.

CM announces ex-gratia: bus mishap

Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy expressed shock over the loss of lives in the RTC bus accident at Pullampeta in Annamayya district and conveyed his condolences to the bereaved families.

He asked the officials to provide proper medical treatment to the injured and stand by the victim families.

The Chief Minister also announced an ex-gratia of Rs. 10 lakh each to the kin of the deceased, Rs. 2 lakh each to the seriously injured and Rs. 50,000 each to those who suffered minor injuries.
