AMARAVATI: A three-member committee appointed by Andhra Pradesh Chief Secretary Dr KS Jawahar Reddy to identify suitable transit accommodation including a camp office for Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and accommodation for senior functionaries in Visakhapatnam will visit the port city on Monday.

The committee would inspect the ongoing works of the Chief Minister’s Office and other administrative buildings. On October 10, Jawahar Reddy appointed the three-member committee comprising Special Chief Secretary (MA&UD) Y Sri Lakshmi, Special Chief Secretary (Finance) SS Rawat and Secretary (Services HRM), General Administration Department.

After inspecting the ongoing works, the committee would submit a detailed report to the General Administration Department on the facilities being readied for the Chief Minister’s camp office in Visakhapatnam. Based on the committee's report, arrangements would be made for the officials and ministers.

On several occasions, Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy announced to shift his office to Visakhapatnam. Recently, the cabinet also gave its approval to shift administrative offices to Visakhapatnam in a phased manner. In the first phase, the CMO would be shifted and it would be operated from the port city with effect from October 24, 2023, coinciding with the Dasara festival.

Sources said that the Chief Minister was thinking of adopting a wait-and-watch policy for shifting the capital to Visakhapatnam as a section of farmers in Amaravati capital region are likely to knock the doors of the High Court on Government Order (GO) 2004 released for setting up of a camp office for the Chief Minister and accommodation for supporting senior functionaries.

Moreover, the Supreme Court would also hear the Special Leave Petition (SLP) by the Andhra Pradesh Government in the three capitals case in December. Based on this, the Chief Minister is likely to shift to the proposed executive capital in December, coinciding with his birthday on December 21.
