Yet another Facebook love: Andhra man marries a Sri Lankan girl in Chittoor district

CHITTOOR: In another case of social media love that resulted in a marriage, Lakshman, who works as a mason in Arimakulapalle in Venkatagirikota mandal of Chittoor district, recently married Vigneshwari, a Sri Lankan native, whom he fell in love with on Facebook. Both of them have been in a relationship for the last seven years.

Vigneshwari, arrived in Chennai on a tourist visa on July 8, 2023, where Laxman met her for the first time and brought her to his hometown. On July 20, they decided to take their love a step further and got married in a temple. Vigneshwari is currently staying with Laxman in Venkatagirikota.

However the love story might be cut short soon. The district authorities, who got to know of the marriage contacted the couple. Superintendent of Police, Y Rishanth Reddy, met them and served a notice on Vigneshwari. She has been asked to return to Sri Lanka by August 6, the date on which her tourist visa expires.

The police have advised the couple to register their marriage and inform the bride's parents. Vigneshwari however has expressed her intention to stay in India.

This story comes close on the heels of Seema Haider, who came from Pakistan wither her four children to marry her lover in Uttar Pradesh in the first week of July. In another instance of cross-border love story, a woman named Anju, a mother of two from Rajasthan, travelled to a remote village in Pakistan to marry her Facebook friend on July 25, 2023.
