KAKINADA: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy will formally launch the distribution of the enhanced pension at Kakinada on January 3, 2024.

Almost a week ago, the State Government released a GO enhancing the social security pensions -- YSR Pension Kanuka -- from Rs 2,750 to Rs 3,000. As per the promise made during electioneering in 2019, the Chief Minister has enhanced the monthly pension amount from Rs 2,000 to Rs 3,000 in a phased manner.

Accordingly, old age pensioners, widows, weavers, toddy tappers, fishermen, single women, traditional cobblers and ART patients under the YSR Pension Kanuka would receive the enhanced pension of December 2023 from January 1, 2024.

Kakinada MLA Dwarampudi Chandrasekhar Reddy on Thursday said that the Chief Minister would launch the distribution of enhanced pension to the beneficiaries under YSR Pension Kanuka scheme in the city on January 3. The State Government would have to bear an additional burden of Rs 139.21 crore per month with the enhanced pension. This comes to an additional Rs 556.87 crore for the current fiscal (December 2023 to March 2024), he said.

The MLA said that apart from launching the distribution of enhanced pension, the Chief Minister would also inaugurate Mutta Gopala Krishna Varadhi (Kondayapalem flyover), Ragidi Kalakshetram constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 20 crore and skating rink developed with international standards at an estimated cost of Rs 7 crore in the city, he informed.
