HYDERABAD: With the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) serving fresh summons for questioning on May 19, 2023 in the YS Vivekananda Reddy murder case, beleaguered YSRCP MP YS Avinash Reddy on Wednesday moved the Supreme Court for bail.

The Kadapa MP has sought the Supreme Court directions for the Telangana High Court vacation bench to hear his bail petition on priority basis. The counsel of YS Avinash Reddy has made a mention before the division bench headed by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud to this effect.

However, the CJI, without committing to the request for directions to the high court vacation bench, has asked the petitioner to file a written request if the hearing is of urgent nature. He promised to peruse the request before taking a decision on it.

The YSRCP MP approached the Supreme Court following some dramatic developments with regard to the YS Vivekananda Reddy murder case. After a 20-day respite, the CBI on Monday served a fresh notice on the Kadapa MP asking him to appear before it in Hyderabad for questioning on May 16, 2023. However, on Tuesday, YS Avinash Reddy not only expressed his inability to comply with the notice citing pre-scheduled engagements and short notice but also sought four days’ time. Considering his request positively, the CBI served yet another notice on Tuesday in Pulivendula at the MP’s residence. With YS Avinash Reddy not available, the notice was reportedly handed over to his driver in Pulivendula. As per the latest notice, YS Avinash Reddy will have to appear at the CBI regional office in Hyderabad at 11 am on May 19, 2023.

The latest summoning comes amid speculation that the probe agency is all likely to act decisively against the Kadapa MP in the wake of the recent Supreme Court order refusing to grant any interim relief to YS Avinash Reddy on his bail petition.
