HYDERABAD: YSRCP MP from Kadapa YS Avinash Reddy, who was supposed to appear before the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection with the YS Vivekananda Reddy murder case on Friday, once again played truant citing his mother’s sudden hospitalisation in Pulivendula due to a heart attack.

Informing the CBI authorities about his inability to appear before it for questioning, the beleaguered MP reportedly changed his plans and rushed to Pulivendula to be by the side of his ailing mother. According to reports, YS Avinash Reddy was indeed preparing to leave his Hyderabad residence for the CBI office for questioning on Friday morning.

There was a heavy buildup of media personnel, both at YS Avinash Reddy’s house in Hyderabad and the CBI regional office, in anticipation of decisive action from the probe agency against the MP on Friday. But, the YSRCP leader sprang a surprise when he reportedly informed the CBI officials that he would not be able to attend the questioning due to his mother’s sudden indisposition.

Stating that his mother suffered a heart attack and that his family members had admitted her to EC Gangi Reddy Hospital in Pulivendula, the MP told the CBI officials that he would not be able to turn up for questioning. Later, he reportedly headed to Pulivendula to take care of his mother. It was not immediately clear if his mother is in a critical condition or out of danger.

YS Avinash Reddy was supposed to appear for the CBI questioning on Friday, May 19, 2023 as per a fresh notice served on him by the probe agency. He was summoned afresh after he expressed his inability to appear before the CBI on May 16, 2023, citing pre-scheduled engagements and short notice.

In the meantime, the YSRCP MP also moved the Supreme Court, seeking directions to the Telangana High Court vacation bench to hear his anticipatory bail petition on a priority basis. But with the apex court not committing to this, it is being widely perceived that all legal hurdles for the CBI have been effectively cleared for it to take any decisive action against the MP. The CBI is accusing, along with a few others, of his involvement in the YS Vivekananda Reddy murder case and claims to possess clinching evidence to establish his complicity.

YS Avinash Reddy returns to Hyderabad with mother

Meanwhile, YS Avinash Reddy changed his travel plans mid way through his journey to Pulivendula and was returning to Hyderabad, following the ambulance carrying his mother. His mother was initially admitted to EC Gangi Reddy Hospital in Pulivendula after she reportedly suffered a heart attack. But, the family members subsequently decided to shift her to Hyderabad for better treatment.

Even as she was being taken in an ambulance to the Telangana capital, YS Avinash Reddy came across the vehicle Chukkaluru in Tadipatri mandal. The MP is said to have got down from his car and paid a visit to his mother inside the ambulance.

Later, he reportedly headed back to Hyderabad while accompanying the ambulance carrying his mother.

Earlier in the day, the advocates of YS Avinash Reddy informed the CBI officials about his mother’s hospitalisation and conveyed the MP’s inability to attend the questioning. Since his father was also in jail, under judicial custody in Hyderabad, the lawyers told the CBI officials that it would be the responsibility of YS Avinash Reddy to take care of his mother post the heart stroke.
