HYDERABAD: YSRCP Member of Legislative Council (MLC) in Andhra Pradesh Challa Bhageerath Reddy (46) passed away at a Hyderabad hospital on Wednesday. He was suffering from pneumonia-related complications for sometime now and was being treated at a private hospital in the Telangana state capital.

He breathed his last after his condition worsened on Wednesday. His last rites are expected to be performed at his native place Owk in Kurnool district on Thursday. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and YSRCP President YS Jaganmohan Reddy expressed his grief at the untimely demise of Bhageerath Reddy. While conveying his condolences to the bereaved family members, he recalled the young leader's services, hailing him as an active leader coming from a political family with legacy.

Bhageerath Reddy was put on ventilator for the last couple of days after his health condition deteriorated. Son of former Congress MLA and YSRCP MLC late Challa Rama Krishna Reddy, Bhageerath Reddy joined the YSRCP in 2019 along with his father. Before switching his loyalties to YS Jagan's party, the young leader served as the Kurnool district chief of Youth Congress from 2003 till 2009. He also had a stint as the All India secretary of the Congress youth wing between 2007-08.

His father Rama Krishna Reddy was a three-time MLA of the Congress party. Following their entry into the YSRCP, Rama Krishna Reddy was made an MLC. But after his death at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2021, YS Jaganmohan Reddy nominated Bhageerath Reddy as an MLC from the MLAs' quota.

Born on May 28, 1976, Bhageerath Reddy was a post-graduate (MA Political Science) from the Osmania University. He is survived by his wife Challa Sri Lakshmi and two sons. Condolences have been pouring in for the grief-stricken family at the untimely death of the MLC at such a young age.
