Acid attack on minor girl: AP Minister vows strong deterrence

NELLORE: Andhra Pradesh Minister for Agriculture Kakani Govardhan Reddy said on Tuesday that the teenager who attacked a 14-year-old girl near here would not be spared. He said the government would deal with the issue seriously and punish the accused to serve as a strong deterrence to such heinous crimes.

Govardhan Reddy visited the Apollo Hospital in Nellore district where the girl is undergoing treatment. The accused, on Monday, slit the 14-year-old girl's throat and poured toilet-cleaning acid on her when she was alone at her house in Bujabuja Nellore village on the outskirts of the city.

The Minister consoled the victim and later spoke to the doctors about her health condition. The doctors told him that the victim's condition was stable and she was out of danger.

Govardhan Reddy asserted that the accused was taken into custody and cases were registered under Nirbhaya, attempt to murder and other sections.
