HYDERABAD: Srisailam MLA Chakrapani Reddy on Sunday released water from Velugodu Balancing Reservoir to Siddapuram pond through a lift Irrigation scheme to irrigate lakhs of acres in Rayalaseema districts along with Nellore and Prakasam districts.

Before the release of water, the MLA performed special prayers to the river and presented a silk saree, and released the water by switching on the motors.

Speaking on the occasion, Shilpa Chakrapani Reddy said that the farmers in the state were happy with YS Jagan Mohan Reddy's rule and alleged that the Telangana government was creating obstacles to Andhra Pradesh for using the surplus water from river Krishna.

He recalled the late chief minister YS Rajasekhar Reddy's services in the irrigation sector and lauded the latter's decision of increasing the water capacity from 11,000 cusecs to 44,000 cusecs at Pothireddypadu head regulator to provide water to Rayalaseema districts along with Nellore and Prakasam districts for irrigation purpose.

The MLA assured the farmers that government would construct the small canals to the Siddapuram pond and save the farmers from lack of water for irrigation.
