VIZIANAGARAM: Deputy Speaker of Andhra Pradesh Kolagatla Veerabhadra Swamy on Saturday said that there shouldn't be any objection in renaming the Government General Hospital, Vizianagaram as it was being developed and a new medical college was also sanctioned for the district. The YSR Congress party government, after coming to power, decided to set up the medical college also.

The State Government decided to rename the hospital, famously known as Maharaja District Government Hospital, as Government General Hospital.

Speaking to the media a day after the TDP leaders staged a protest against the name change, the Deputy Speaker said that TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu was using former Chief Minister N T Rama Rao's name to attack YS Jaganmohan Reddy and former Union Minister Ashok Gajapati Raju, son of the Pusapati Vijayarama Gajapati Raju, was using the hospital's name change as a weapon to defame the YSRC Government. He asked them to quote one instance when the present TDP members showed any respect to the late NTR or PVG Raju.

"The hospital was name d after Maharaja's as a token of respect to the Ganapati dynasty. The TDP and Ashok Gajapati did not bother to develop it during their rule. However, since it is now being developed by Jagan, they have a problem with it. The land is owned by the Government and not Ashok Gajapti's family, as they are claiming. Iif they have proof otherwise, they should show it to the public. It was made for public service and would continue to serve the people as a government hospital," the Deputy Speaker said.

He said in 1983, the then Chief Minister NTR laid the foundation for the project and they were indebted to PVG Raju for his services to Vizianagaram. However, he said that Ashok Gajapati had failed the region. Even during COVID, the TDP and Ashok Gajapati did not do any good for the people, unlike the YSRCP and Jagan, he said.

Kolagatla Veerabhadra Swamy said the TDP was pursuing the protest only to defame the YSRCP and said that such dirty politics would not win them votes.
