Barely a month into the year 2023, mass tech layoffs have caused a social sensation. More than 91 companies have laid off over 24,000 tech employees in the first 15 days of the month. Employees of tech giants like Amazon, Google and Microsoft received pink slips from their management, leaving several Indian employees living abroad helpless.

After thousands of jobs were lost, Indian IT workers are having difficulty finding new employment in the US within the time frame allowed by their H1B work visas. Over 30 to 40 percent of the Indian IT professionals have been laid off in the US. Among companies who laid off their staff are ShareChat, Ola, Skit.ai, Dunzo and more

The internet was not quite silent during these layoffs. It was filled with stories of employees from people across the world. As #layoff #layoff2023 trends on Twitter, users hailed government jobs, while others criticized the uncertainty in the private work culture.
