HYDERABAD: Who would have thought a Telugu film will win an Oscar one day? Who would have thought that the whole world dances to a Telugu song one day? Who would have thought legendary Hollywood directors praise a Telugu director one day? One film made these impossible dreams possible and the film is RRR. One of the most accomplished films in Indian cinema, RRR, also celebrated one year of its release a couple of days ago.

Starring Jr NTR and Ram Charan in the lead roles, RRR was released on March 25, 2022. Upon its release, RRR received unanimous positive talk and emerged as a big hit at the box office. It emerged as the third Indian film to gross 1000 crores at the box office.

RRR also happens to be the highest-grossing Indian film in Japan with earnings of over one billion Japanese Yen. The film was immensely loved by Hollywood audiences. It was also praised by top Hollywood directors like James Cameron, Steven Spielberg and Edgar Wright.

The film's song Naatu Naatu went on to win Best Original Song at the Academy Awards as well as the Golden Globe Awards. Rajamouli won Best Director at New York Film Critics Choice Awards. Along with them, RRR won multiple awards at multiple renowned award ceremonies and film festivals.

Meanwhile, there were many rumours saying that Rajamouli and his team spent around 80 crores for the Oscar producer. But RRR's line-producer SS Karthikeya denied all rumours. He said that they initially estimated 5 crores for the Oscar campaign. They spent around 3 crores in the first stage. After the film got nominated, they had to spend more money in the second phase. In total, they spend around Rs. 8.5 crores for the Oscar campaign.

There were also speculations saying that Rajamouli, NTR and Ram Charan bought Academy Awards tickets for 20 lakhs each. Karthikeya rubbished these rumours as well. He said that the nominees and performers (Keeravani, Chandrabose, Kaala Bhairavaa and Rahul Sipligunj) got invites from the Academy. Later, the nominees sent an email to the Academy requesting tickets for the crew. In that way, the team got some tickets. Karthikeya said that they spent $1500 for lower-level seats and $750 for top-level seats.
