HYDERABAD: Nandamuri Taraka Ratna, grandson of the legendary N T Rama Rao, passed away on Saturday (February 18, 2023) after a protracted battle of 23 days at Narayana Hrudayalaya in Bengaluru.

Taraka Ratna suffered a massive a heart attack on January 27 at Kuppam when Telugu Desam Party (TDP) general secretary Nara Lokesh launched his “Yuva Galam” padayatra.

Several members of NTR family, well-wishers and friends called on the ailing Taraka Ratna at the hospital.

TDP supremo N Chandrababu Naidu expressed his grief over the demise of his nephew.

Soon after Taraka Ratna suffered a cardiac arrest, he was admitted to KC Hospital for resuscitation and later in K E M Medical College. He was shifted to Narayana Hrudayalaya in Bengaluru. As his condition turned critical, he was put on Ecmo support.

His condition never showed signs of improvement and he finally succumbed on Saturday night.

Condolences kept pouring from over the demise of Taraka Ratna.

Chief Minister Sri YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has expressed grief over the death of Sri Nandamuri Taraka Ratna, film actor and grand son of NTR and conveyed his condolences to the bereaved family members.

TDP President and Taraka Ratna's uncle Chandrababu Naidu too expressed his grief in a tweet.


YSR Congress MP V Vijaya Sai Reddy also expressed his grief over the demise of Taraka Ratna. While he had hoped that the actor would recover, he succumbed.



Mega Star Chiranjeevi was among the film personalities who expressed shock and pain over the loss to the Nandamuri family. He conveyed his condolences to the bereaved family members in a tweet.







Taraka Ratna an unlucky actor

Nandamuri Taraka Ratna, grandson of the legendary N T Rama Rao, has debuted into filmdom with “Okato number kurrodu” In 2002. Star director K Raghavendra Rao gave the screenplay and Golden Globe award winner for “Natu Natu” song in RRR, MM Keeravani, composed music for the movie.

Tarakaratna worked in a few other movies also. He donned the roles of a villain also, apart from acting in the lead roles. He signed seven movies and Chandrababu Naidu gave a clap to all of them at once.

He donned a negative role in 2009 in the movie Amaravathi and won a Nandi Award for the same.

He had played a negative role in “Raja Cheyyi Veste” in 2016 and did as a hero in “9 Hours”, a Hotstar web series.

He also signed web series with Netflix and Amazon.

He suffered a massive heart attack on January 27 when he began walking with his cousin Nara Lokesh as part of the latter’s 4,000-km-long Padayatra at Kuppam in Chittoor district.

He was born on January 8, 1983 in Chennai.

He was the son of Nandamuri Mohana Krishna, a cinematographer and one of the sons of the late NTR. He was the nephew of famous actor Nandamuri Balakrishna and former Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu.

He passed class X from Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Hyderabad. He did his intermediate in Vignan, Guntur and B Tech from Vignan Engineering College kn Hyderabad.

He is survived by his wife Alekhya Reddy, a son and two daughters. He met Alekhya in Nandeeswarudu movie for which she was the costume designer. She is the niece of YSR Congress MP V Vijaya Sai Reddy.
