'RRR' continues to Roar at Japan BO; Next Target is Oscars

HYDERABAD: SS Rajamouli directed RRR starring Jr.NTR, and Ram Charan became the highest-grossing Indian movie of all time in Japan. It was released in Japan on 21st October 2022 and saw a slow start. But it rose day by day, strengthening its power, and finally became the highest grosser. Now, the next target in front of the movie is to grab a nomination at the Oscars 2023, which will be revealed soon.

Now, RRR movie’s official Twitter account announced that RRR the film had recorded a huge footfall after the release of Dolby Japan and an increase in IMAX screens. Even at the Golden Globes, Jr. NTR mentioned that the love RRR received in Japan is much more than what they received in India. This has again been proved by the Japanese, who can’t stop watching this action drama. January 20 saw 7,181 admissions, January 21 saw 14,102 admissions and January 22 saw 15,733 admissions. The film collected JPY67.4 ($519,000) million over the weekend, taking its total to JPY650 million ($5 million).

The previous Indian record holder at the Japanese box office was “Muthu,” starring superstar Rajinikanth, which collected JPY400 million ($3.07 million) in 1998. It’s also interesting to note that Rajamouli directed “Bahubali 2” also earned JPY200 million in Japan.

Now, Rajamouli has broken his own record. The Twitter handle also mentioned that this weekend made them the happiest since RRR’s Japan release.
