HYDERABAD: Documentary titled “India’s GreenHeart Dusharla Satyanarayana” made by senior journalist Chilkuri Sushil Rao selected for Cannes World Film Festival.

‘India’s GreenHeart’ Dusharla Satyanarayana has made it to the official selection of the Cannes World Film Festival. The event will take place on April 6, 2023 at Cannes, French Riviera, France. The short documentary made by senior journalist Chilkuri Sushil Rao of Hyderabad, has been officially selected for the Best director – Documentary short category.


“India’s GreenHeart Dusharla Satyanarayana” is about 69-year-old Dusharla Satyanarayana, a nature lover and environmentalist who created a forest on his 70 acre of ancestral land at Raghavapuram near Suryapet town in Telangana, India. He started developing the forest more than six decades ago and preserves it.

In the Telangana International Film Festival (TIFF) held in December 2022 in Hyderabad, the documentary won the Special Jury Award and was screened at Prasad Labs Preview Theatre as part of the festival.

The Great Indian Tamarind Tree

Another documentary made by Chilkuri Sushil Rao titled “The Great Indian Tamarind Tree” on the tree that saved 150 lives during the 1908 Musi River floods in Hyderabad was selected as an official entry at the 11th Mumbai Shorts International Film Festival in December 2022.

A documentary titled “On Trail of the Genetic Code” made by Chilkuri Sushil Rao has been submitted for the prestigious “Festival de Cannes”. The 76th Cannes Festival – 2023 will be held from May 16-27, 2023.

Chilkuri Sushil Rao is a gold medalist in journalism from the Department of Communication and Journalism, Arts College, Osmania University, Hyderabad from where he also did his post-graduation in journalism.

As one interested in the art of filmmaking, he has educated himself in the subject. He has also done an introductory course in film studies from the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune, and also from the Central University of Kerala equipping himself with the knowledge of filmmaking for film criticism. He has authored four books.

Chilkuri Sushil Rao has done a course in film studies from IIT Madras. He has also educated himself in music doing a course in Carnatic music from IIT Madras. He has also done an online course in "Problems of Philosophy '' from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Cambridge, US.

A documentary film that he made titled “Kafeel Mujhe India Jaane Do” on the trauma of women trafficked from Hyderabad to the gulf countries was screened at the Paidi Jairaj Preview Theatre at Ravindra Bharathi by the Department of Language and Culture, Telangana
