HYDERABAD: In 2023, Southern cinema delivered a slew of captivating films, including Rajinikanth's "Jailer," Thalapathy Vijay's "Leo," and Prabhas's "Salaar: Part 1 - Ceasefire," offering a compelling cinematic experience. Looking ahead to 2024, highly anticipated South Indian films are poised to hit theaters.

"Indian 2," a Tamil vigilante action film featuring Kamal Haasan reprising his role as Senapathy, promises an action-packed sequel directed by S Shankar. Despite delays, the film, co-starring Priya Bhavani Shankar and others, is set for a 2024 release, with Anirudh Ravichander composing the music.

"Devara: Part 1" starring Jr NTR, Saif Ali Khan, and Janhvi Kapoor is a Telugu film generating significant buzz, featuring larger mass appeal compared to director Koratala Siva's debut, "Mirchi." With a two-part presentation, the film boasts an impressive technical crew, including Anirudh Ravichander and cinematographer R Rathnavelu.

"Allu Arjun returns in 'Pushpa 2: The Rule,' a sequel to the 2021 film, continuing the tale of a red sandalwood smuggler. Directed by Sukumar, the film, with a budget of Rs 500 crores, boasts an ensemble cast and is set for an Independence Day release in 2024.

"Kantara: Chapter 1" is a Kannada prequel directed by Rishab Shetty, exploring the origins of the mythical deity Panjurli Deiva. Set during the reign of the Kadamba dynasty, the film is anticipated to release in late 2024.

Finally, "Kalki 2898 AD" is a monumental mythological-science fiction dystopian film with an ensemble cast including Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan, Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, and Disha Patani. Written and directed by Nag Ashwin, it is the most expensive Indian film ever made, exploring the legend of Hindu mythology, Kalki, with Prabhas in the title role and Kamal Haasan as the main antagonist.
