HYDERABAD: The Miyapur Police have arrested a person for brutally killing a man using a firearm at a hotel in Miyapur on Wednesday night.

In a press statement issued on Thursday, Additional Madhapur DCP Nandyala Narasimha Reddy said that the accused was identified as Rathish Nair (42), a native of Palakkad in Kerala while the deceased was identified as Debendar Gayen (35), a native of Kolkata in West Bengal. Both of them were friends and colleagues in Sandarshini Elite Hotel in Miyapur.

Investigation revealed that there was a competition between Ratish Nair and Debendar Gayen for the post of general manager, due to which both of them used to have frequent fights. With his good association with the owner of the hotel and productive work, Debendar Gayen was promoted as general manager instead of Ratish Nair due to which the accused had a fight with the deceased and created a ruckus, the ADCP said.

The ADCP added that due to Ratish Nair’s irresponsible behaviour, he was terminated from his job. The accused developed a grudge against the deceased and decided to kill him. Subsequently, he procured a country-made weapon and watched over the deceased with the intention of killing. On Wednesday night, Ratish Nair waited for Debendar Gayen outside of the hotel and once he came out, the accused opened fire on him and fired six rounds and fled the spot.

Following a complaint from Priyanka Gayan, wife of Devendar Gayen,a case was registered under 302 IPC and Section 25 (1), (A) ARMS Act 1959 at Miyapur police station, Cyberabad. The accused was arrested on Thursday afternoon and he was being sent for judicial remand, the ADCP added.
