Alert neighbour rescues girl from jilted lover, even as her brother succumbs

HYDERABAD: The horrific incident in which a jilted lover attacked a girl and her brother with a knife at RTC Colony in LB Nagar on Sunday turned fatal after her brother succumbed to the injuries on the spot.

Meanwhile, with the alertness of a neighbouring woman, the girl Sanghavi, who had bolted herself up in a room fearing lethal attack, was rescued and she’s undergoing treatment in a hospital.

Gundumalla Surender Goud and Indiramma from Kondurgu mandal of Rangareddy district have three children. While the eldest daughter Sanghavi (26) is studying fourth year of Homeopathy at Ramantapur Homeo College, the son Prithvi (23) has recently completed his engineering and is looking for a job. The duo was living at RTC Colony in LB Nagar.

The accused identified as Siva Kumar (26) of Nerella Cheruvu village, Farooq Nagar Mandal of Shadnagar who was classmate of Sanghavi during their school was harassing the latter in the name of love for some time now, despite Sanghavi rejecting his love.

On Sunday, upon knowing Sanghavi's address in LB Nagar, Siva Kumar broke into her house when Prithvi went out and had a heated argument over the love with her. He also threatened her and when the brother tried to protect her, Siva Kumar, brutally attacked both with a knife. While Sanghavi went into another room and locked her door, Prithvi came out bleeding and locked the door from outside.

Hearing the screams of the young woman, the woman next door Jhansi came out and learned about the incident from Prithvi. Angered Jhansi took a stick and confronted Siva Kumar and warned him of severe consequences, if anything happened to Sanghavi and brought the victims out from the other end of the house. The locals rushed Prithvi to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead and Sanghavi was taken to another hospital for better treatment.

Upon receiving the information, the police arrived at the scene and detained the accused. LB Nagar DCP Sai Sri said that they had registered a case and started the investigation.

During the investigation, the police found the past crimes of Siva Kumar wherein the latter allegedly murdered his father according to villagers. The villagers said as Siva Kumar was the only son, they didn't file any case against him for killing his father. Also, he is said to have made trials to foray into the film industry after his graduation.
