HYDERABAD: A Telugu student, identified as Uma Sathya Sai, has been found dead under mysterious circumstances in Cleveland, Ohio, USA. The Indian consulate in New York confirmed the particulars of the deceased.

“All possible assistance is being extended including to transport Uma Gadde’s mortal remains to India at the earliest,” the consulate said in a statement. The death of the Telugu student, which was the tenth in a series of tragic deaths of students of Indian origin in the USA, was declared on Friday night.

This year in March, Mohammed Abdul Arafat, mysteriously went missing from the Cleveland area, with his family subsequently receiving a ransom demand for his safe return. Amarnath Ghosh, a 34-year-old trained classical dancer from India, was fatally shot in St. Louis, Missouri. Sameer Kamath, a 23-year-old Indian-American student at Purdue University, was discovered deceased in a nature preserve in Indiana.

Vivek Taneja, a 41-year-old Indian-origin IT executive, sustained life-threatening injuries during an assault outside a restaurant in Washington. Vivek Saini of Haryana was killed in Georgia. Recently, 19-year-old Shreyas Reddy Beniger, a student at the Linder School of Business in Ohio, was found dead. Akul Dhawan, another Indian student, was found dead outside the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in January.
