HYDERABAD: Telangana BJP has fielded Virinchi Hospital Chairman Kompella Madhavi Latha who is not even a primary member of the party as its Lok Sabha candidate to challenge four-time Hyderabad MP and AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi in Hyderabad.

What’s interesting is that she has been named the party contestant even before she became a primary member of the BJP.

She joined the party in the presence of Tarun Chugh on Sunday, while her candidacy was announced on Saturday.

Madhavi Latha, a businesswoman, Bharatnatyam dancer and NCC cadet, has been campaigning in the old city of Hyderabad and against triple talaq for the past six months.

Though she has never been active in politics, she has been working with Muslim women's groups to campaign for the abolition of triple talaq and has frequently raised the issue in the old city.

Madhavi Latha, who is a trustee of Viswanadha Foundation, Lopamudra Charitable Trust and Lathama Foundation, has set up a fund for destitute Muslim women, runs a gaushala and is an advocate of Hindutva and Indian culture.

She holds a bachelor's degree from Nizam College and a post-graduate degree in political science from Koti Women's College.

Madhavi Latha's elder daughter Lopamudra is a 19-year-old BTech student at IIT Madras, while her son Ramakrishna Paramahamsa, 16, is also an IITian in his first year of BTech. Her youngest daughter, Modini, is currently in 11th grade.

Virinchi Hospitals in Banjara Hills, founded by her husband Vishwanath (the founder and chairman emeritus of Virinchi), lost its license for Covid-19 treatments after health authorities discovered that it was overcharging patients.
