HYDERABAD: Commissioner of Hyderabad City Police C V Anand has said that the ancient Purani Haveli, the erstwhile office of the “Kotwal” (City police commissioner) will be protected, renovated and its grandeur restored in six months.

The protection, renovation and restoration works were commenced on Tuesday. Greenko India took up the responsibility to foot the bill as part of its corporate social responsibility initiative.

Deccan Terrain, which was experienced in protecting and restoration of monuments and ancient structures, would execute the work.

In fact, the “Kothwal” system was initiated in Hyderabad in 1847 and Purani Haveli had been the Kotwal’s office in 1922. The CP’s office continued in this building until 2022 - for 80 years, said Anand.

After that, a new Commissionerate was built at Basheerbagh and the CP office was moved there.

However, the Commissioners used to operate from Purani Haveli on every Friday till recently when it’s roof caved in and the building became dangerous.

Anand tweeted on Tuesday along with his video saying: “This PuraniHaveli building was the Kotwal I.e. CP Hyderabad’s office from 1915 to 2002 when it was shifted to Basheer Bagh.

“But it has continued to be my office whenever I visited South Zone on the occasion of important bandobusts till one day the roof caved in and the building became dangerous.

“Being a Hyderabadi, I didn’t want to lose a #heritage building and am very thankful to @GreenkoIndia CMD Anil garu for coming forward to revive and restore this building.

“In 6 months we ll have a new ,restored Purani Haveli .”

Once the building was renovated, Anand said he would make use of this and Basheer Bagh office also, apart from the office located in Integrated Command Control Centre in Banjara Hills.
