Congress threatens to lay siege to GHMC office on Friday over monsoon unpreparedness

HYDERABAD: The Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) has threatened that it would lay siege to the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) office on Friday if the State Government failed to deliver the services to the people during the heavy rains expected to lash Hyderabad on Wednesday and Thursday. The TPCC has appealed to the cadre to be constantly available to the people and provide assistance to them during incessant rains.

In a press statement issued on Wednesday, TPCC President A Revanth Reddy alleged that the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) Government in the last nine years had utterly failed in taking measures to create facilities and benefit the people in Hyderabad. There were several instances in Telangana, where people had suffered huge loss of property, lives and crops during the previous floods. Now, people of Hyderabad were facing severe hardships during the incessant rains lashing the city for a week, he said.

“Neither Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) nor Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD) Minister KT Rama Rao (KTR) didn’t take any precautionary measures risking the lives of the people in Hyderabad. KTR totally ignored the woes of the people suffering from the incessant rains and celebrated his birthday,” Revanth Reddy criticised.

The TPCC Chief pointed out that despite the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) having issued alerts of heavy to very heavy rain lashing the State, the BRS Government had not taken any precautionary measures and reviewed the plight of the people during the monsoon season. In Hyderabad, people were facing a tough time commuting on the roads due to traffic congestion in several parts of the city due to waterlogging on various road stretches.

Taking a dig at the KCR and KTR for boasting Hyderabad as a cosmopolitan city on the lines of Dallas and the Old City like Istanbul, Revanth Reddy said that the duo have turned Hyderabad into a hellhole for the people. He cautioned people to be more vigilant while wading near the open nallas and avoid visiting flood-affected areas. “People should maintain distance while passing through the age-old buildings in Hyderabad. Apart from that, parents should also prevent their children from stepping out of their houses during the monsoon”, Revanth Reddy said.
