HYDERABAD: BRS working president and former Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister KT Rama Rao (KTR) described the approval of the elevated corridor on the Hyderabad-Nagpur National Highway and Hyderabad-Karimnagar Rajiv Rahadari by the Ministry of Defence as the victory of the BRS Government which has fought for it for over, a decade.

“We have fought for the elevated corridors since we assumed power in Telangana to ease traffic problems. Our Government took a decision on these projects on 31 July 2023 and based on that, the Union Government took this decision,” he said.

He said that the Defence Department allocated 33 acres of defence lands and now another 150 acres would be allocated for the construction of these skyways. KTR said that earlier Governments could not expand these roads because they were passing through defence lands. The former Minister added that the BRS Government submitted proposals for these elevated corridors immediately after coming to power and pursued the matter relentlessly.

“The then Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, state Ministers, and MPs made a point to meet the ministries concerned whenever and request them to expedite the clearance of the files. They used to assure that everything was fine and that soon they would approve the files. We also submitted all necessary documents to speed up the process,” KTR pointed out.

Appreciating the efforts of the Government officials who worked hard for the approval of these elevated corridors, KTR said that once completed these corridors would ease traffic to a larger extent and remove bottlenecks on both the crucial highways.

He recalled the BRS Government could complete several projects on the LB Nagar stretch because they were not interwoven with the defence lands. He expressed hope that the present Government would speed up corridor work from JBS to Shamirpet and Paradise to Kandlakoya stretches without any delay. He also thanked the Union Government for approving the corridors by granting defence lands.
