HYDERABAD: Former Union Minister of State for Medical and Health and former Khammam MP Renuka Chowdhury has purchased a luxury apartment in Oberoi Realty’s venture, Three Sixty West project in the upmarket Worli for a whopping sum of Rs. 63.33 crore, according to media reports.

Realty website ‘SquareFeatIndia’ in its report said that Renuka Chowdhury, along with her daughter Poojitha, purchased the 6,179 sq. ft. flat on the 31st floor in Tower B, with a three-car parking on the level 8. The per sft cost of the premium luxury tenement worked out to Rs. 1.02 lakh.

The SquareFeatIndia revealed that it had accessed the registration documents and that the deal was entered into on February 23, 2023 in Mumbai. The 31st floor apartment is the 15th habitable floor in the luxury apartment project of the Oberoi Realty.

The former MP and her daughter also got a discount of one percent in the stamp duty for registration which resulted in a payment of Rs. 1.49 crore towards the registration charges.

Ms Chowdhury was first elected a corporator in Municipal Corporation of Hyderabad (MCH) during the NT Rama Rao regime of the Telugu Desam Party. (TDP). She was then elevated to the Rajya Sabha by NTR. She had fallen out with NTR’s second wife, Lakshmi Parvathi, in 1994 and was suspended from the party after she fiercely went hammer and tongs against NTR, calling him ‘Drama Rao’ and not Rama Rao.

She later joined the Chandrababu Naidu faction of the TDP which became the “official” TDP. Her Rajya Sabha membership was renewed by Naidu. She served as the Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare in 1997-98 in I K Gujral Government. She was elected to the Lok Sabha on Congress ticket twice and held the position of MP for 10 years between October 1999 and May 2009.

Chowdhury served as Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Tourism between May 2004 and January 2006 and later for three years up to 2009 as Minister for Women and Child Development in Manmohan Singh Government. She served as Rajya Sabha member between April 2012 and April 2018 also on behalf of the Congress party.

Renuka Chowdhury is known to be a stormy petrel and a fire-brand MP.
