Customs officials to voluntarily maintain Tallakunta lake in Rajendranagar

HYDERABAD: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) Commissioner Ronald Rose has directed the sanitation staff to ensure regular garbage collection from households. On Tuesday, the GHMC Commissioner conducted an inspection of ponds and sanitation works in the Rajendranagar Attapur Division of the South Zone at the field level.

During the visit, the Commissioner went to Pedda Talla Kunta and requested the officers from the National Academy of Customs and Narcotics in Direct Taxes to adopt the Talla Kunta and carry out beautification works of the pond under the Swachh Bharat initiative to which the officials asked the GHMC to share a letter. The Commissioner later assured them that appropriate action would be taken.

The customs officials expressed their willingness to voluntarily undertake programmes for water and air circulation, silt cleaning, and greenery at the pond. In response, the Commissioner directed GHMC officials to install lighting, fencing, CC cameras, and open gym equipment at the pond.

Later, the Commissioner examined vulnerable areas and consulted locals about household garbage collection. The Commissioner also visited a laboratory dedicated to the conservation of endangered species nearby. Subsequently, the Commissioner inspected Chintala Kunta Park and spoke to the walkers, inquiring about any issues or problems they were facing. When the walkers mentioned that they were experiencing a foul smell due to sewage water overflowing onto the park, the Commissioner instructed the concerned executive engineer to take immediate action.

The engineering officials were also instructed to construct footpaths on both sides to prevent encroachments near Hyderguda Janapriya's apartment. The GHMC Commissioner was accompanied by EVDM Director Prakash Reddy, Charminar Zonal Commissioner Venkanna, Deputy Commissioner Ravi Kumar, EE Narendra Goud, and engineering and sanitation officials.
