GHMC Mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi leaves BRS, joins Congress

HYDERABAD: After dumping Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), the GHMC Mayor and daughter of BRS MP K Keshava Rao joined the Congress in the presence of Chief Minister and TPCC chief A Revanth Reddy and AICC in-charge Deepadas Munshi and here on Saturday.

Vijayalakshmi became Mayor on February, 11,2021. A citizen of America, she left that country and joined politics in her native State Telangana. She is the fifth woman mayor of Hyderabad and the first woman Mayor after the formation of Telangana.

However, confusion prevailed over her joining the Congress. The Mayor wanted the Chief Minister to come to her home and officially invite her into the Congress by offering the party scarf. She also wanted to join the grand old party only if her father KK joined first.

It was reported that the CM did not agree to these conditions and she had to join the party in the presence of AICC in-charge that too in the residence of the Chief Minister.

It was ironic that none of the Mayor’s followers, particularly corporators joined the Congress along with her. On the other hand, KK said to have laid a condition that he would return to the Congress only if Sonia Gandhi offered him the Congress scarf.
