HYDERABAD: The Customs officials at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) confiscated 2.279 kg of gold worth at Rs. 1.37 crore from six passengers on Wednesday.

According to Customs officials, 331 gms of gold worth Rs.20 lakhs was recovered from a Sharjah passenger in one of the cases.The passenger cleverly concealed gold in paste form in his undergarment.

In another case, 1,196 gms of gold worth Rs. 72 lakhs was discovered during a search of the aircraft. Gold was concealed behind an aircraft seat in paste from an aircraft that had arrived in Hyderabad from Ras-al-Khaima.

In the third case, 752 gms of smuggled gold in the shape of cut chunks of gold bars, worth Rs. 45 lakhs, was found from a traveller who had arrived from Kuwait via Dubai.

The Customs officials also confiscated 1,01,000 smuggled cigarette sticks from three passengers who arrived from Cambodia via Bangkok. They detained all of the passengers and launched further investigations.
