HYDERABAD: Puppalaguda, Kokapet, Narsingi, and so on. What an address any one moving up the value chain in life aspires to have.

And, in one of those prestigious gated communities, the office of a housing society concerned gets a zero power bill under the Gruha Jyothi scheme.

Lo and behold! Don’t be surprised. It’s true.

The Congress government's ‘Gruha Jyothi’ initiative, a promise of offering free electricity upto 200 units to domestic consumers, as part of its six guarantees to the public, seems to have been getting side tracked. Because, the scheme, which is intended for the poor with a white ration card is implemented even for the non-white card holders. How can a society have a white ration card or get a zero bill, for that matter.

The loopholes in the implementation of the grandiose scheme that has been boisterously launched are surfacing one after the other.

It is learnt that the power connection at a luxury apartment complex located at Green Space Housing Society in Puppalaguda in Hyderabad, have received zero power bills, which took everybody by surprise.

This naturally gave rise for doubts and criticism on the Congress government in Telangana.

Besides, there is also criticism that the orginal beneficiaries who have white ration card at many places did not receive zero electricity bills. For instance, dwellers of the double bedroom dignity housing did not get the zero bills. While they expressed concerns on the same, BRS leader Krishank Manne tweeted a bill as a proof.

NewsTAP promptly highlighted the issue and Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka asked officials to resolve the problem.

However, the Congress government now had to answer for the criticism for providing zero electricity bill to non white card holders and societies.
