HYDERABAD: In a key procedural development, the Hyderabad Airport Metro Limited (HAML) has called for an open global tender inviting bids for the design and construction of the Metro corridor from Raidurg Metro Station to Shamshabad Airport Station. The tender, dated 15-05-2023, invited bids from eligible applicants through ‘International Competitive Bidding’ (ICB) for the 31-km-long elevated Hyderabad Airport Express Metro Line.

Adhering to norms, the tender notice fixed the estimated contract value at Rs 5,688 crores including all taxes and duties and the bid security at Rs 29 crores. The contract period was set at 36 months, meaning that the much-anticipated stretch is expected to be completed by 2026. The works to be taken up after the single-stage two envelope bidding process include the elevated viaduct, nine stations, E&M works, track works, supply and commissioning of rolling stock, traction and power supply, signalling and telecommunication and AFC.

The HAML has requested interested bidders to purchase their bid documents from its office between May 17, 2023 and May 29, 2023 by paying Rs 2 lakhs plus GST. The payment can be made online or by a demand draft/bank cheque drawn in favour of Hyderabad Airport Metro Limited. The last date for submission of bids is July 5, 2023 and the aspirants are expected to turn in their bids before 3 pm on that day. Almost a month before this deadline, a pre-bid meeting will be convened in Hyderabad on June 14, 2023.

The proposed 31-km-long Airport Express Line will be built along the Outer Ring Road (ORR) with a 28.5 km-long elevated viaduct and an underground pass-through at the airport for about 2.5 km. Once completed, the newest metro stretch of 31 km from Gachibowli to the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Shamshabad will be covered in just 20 minutes when the trains operate at a maximum speed of 120 kmph.

The Airport Express Metro Line will have stations at Mindspace, Raidurg, Biodiversity, Nanakramguda, Narsingi, TSPA Junction, Rajender Nagar, Shamshabad Junction and Airport Cargo with RGIA terminal being the only underground station on the stretch.

The open global tender comes close on the heels of Systra+RITES+DB consortium being selected as the General Consultants (GC) for the project last month. The GC will provide general engineering consultancy services for the airport metro project.

Hyderabad Airport Metro Limited (HAML), which is a Telangana Government enterprise, is a joint venture of Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL), Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) and Telangana State Industrial and Infrastructure Corporation (TSIIC).
