HYDERABAD: Heavy rains battered Hyderabad on Thursday, flooding the city's roads. Waterlogging has been recorded in most parts of the city as the downpour continues and is expected to persist for the next two to three days, according to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD).

Residents driving to work in Hyderabad expressed alarm over flooded roads. Traffic remains snarled up around the city as an aftermath of the persistent downpour since this morning.

Several trees were uprooted and fell due to of the persistent and heavy rains, and traffic officials, together with GHMC personnel, were seen clearing the roads swiftly to avoid disruption to commuters. Officials from the GHMC and the city police urged the public to avoid unnecessary travel and to stay indoors unless absolutely necessary.

Major waterlogging took place in Secunderabad areas such as DK Road, Ranigunj, Road No 1/12 ICICI Bank, and Omega Hospital on Thursday morning.

The vehicle movement suffered delays due to waterlogging from the RTA office in Khairatabad, the VV Statue, and Shadan College towards Nirankari on Thursday evening. Traffic movement was also slow from Malakpet Metro, Classic Ice Cream, Nalgonda X Road, Yashoda Hospital, and Yashoda Hospital towards Malakpet Mandi, with Malakpet traffic police clearing the traffic.

The situation appears to be really severe on the ORR, as traffic is barely moving, visibility is terrible, and water is gushing in a few places. Travelling 6 km took at least 90 minutes up and 90 minutes down owing to damp and clogged roads, according to reports.

Traffic came to a grinding halt in the Cyberabad area, especially the roads around IKEA and Gachibowli. Besides, the Cyber Towers and roads leading to Kukatpalli and Miyapur had also witnessed traffic moving at a snail’s pace.
